Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

What is PBIS?

PBIS is a school-wide behavior program which we use here at the South Kingstown  Inclusionary Preschool (SKIP).  School-wide  Positive Behavioral Interventions and  Supports (PBIS) is a nationally recognized research based model for teaching and recognizing expected behaviors.  For more information on this philosophy, please visit www.pbis.org and www.ripbis.org.  Members of our SKIP staff have trained for 3 years in order to develop our PBIS program.  We partnered with the NH Center for Effective Behavioral Interventions and supports nhcebis.seresc.net and the Sherlock Center at RI College.  Our goal is to assist children in displaying positive behaviors that lead to success in school and in life.  We use this system to enable all students and staff to clearly understand and talk about behavioral expectations in our school and to provide positive behavioral support and reasonable consequences.

PBIS is:

 Explicitly taught expectations

 Consistent language

 Data driven

 Research based behavioral interventions

 Tiered interventions

 Behaviorly-based system+effective environments=maximized learning
